Mystery Quilt Sew Along

Have you ever done a Mystery Quilt before? A mystery quilt is similar to a ‘block of the month’ project where the final design will be revealed at the end.

Schedule:

Starting on Thursday, September 11, 11:00 a.m., I will hand out printed copies for the first two blocks and printed copies for all the following blocks on the 2nd Thursday of each month of our schedule.

 The schedule is:

  • September

  • October

  • November

  • February

  • March

  • April

If you sign up, you will also get an automatic email for these blocks/instructions sent to you at 11:00 a.m. on the scheduled Thursdays for anyone who may be away that day.

You can sign up any time and if it’s after September, just catch up when you can and then sew along with the others.

Size:

The quilt is 60” x 72” and contains 12 blocks. We will make two blocks per month.

Fabric Requirements:

The pattern calls for one main background which can be light, medium or dark and two more background fabrics which are used to frame your blocks.  You will want some contrast with these 3 fabrics as these blocks will be sewn together and in the end will create another pretty image.

The pattern suggests you choose 7 or 13 fabrics to construct your blocks, however, any number of fabrics will do as long as they go together nicely.  You could even use scrap fabrics.  I wouldn’t recommend large scale prints.

You will choose which fabrics you want to use for each block; the pattern will tell you to number those fabrics and where to place them accordingly.  The instructions are very well written including pictures so you can’t go wrong.  Almost all the blocks are pieced except for two small units in two of the blocks that are paper pieced (with 3 seams).  They are very straight forward little unit sections.

Cost:

The cost is $10.00

How to Sign Up:

Please call or email me (Pat Norrad) and I will be happy to answer any questions.  It’s not too late to join in and enjoy the laughs that have already begun.

I am encouraging those who have signed up to bring their blocks to the next meeting date.  It will be fun to see all the blocks made with various collections of fabrics.

Please don’t feel you have to get your blocks sewn or bring them to show before the next meeting date.  This project is meant to be fun and to see what others are doing.

I saw this Mystery Quilt being made from another group and there wasn’t an ugly one there.
