Through the Community Quilts Program, guild members generously donate their time, skill and materials offering comfort through quilts to agencies across the Comox Valley.

We currently support the following organizations in the Comox Valley:

Lilly House

The Views Long-Term Care

Courtenay / Comox

The Cumberland Lodge
North Island Health

There are so many great reasons to support the Community Quilts Program.

  • There is a strong feeling of community when we come together providing quilts for others.

  • Your handiwork will make a difference in someone’s life.

  • You can use up your stash.

  • You can try new pattern, technique or machine quilting.

  • It feels good to share your passion and spread kindness through quilting for others.

Current Projects

Quilts

Completed quilts (or flimsies) are accepted to be donated to community partners supporting Seniors, Adults and Teens.

Suggested sizes are:

  • 50 x 60” for adults or teens

  • 40 x 50” for seniors and children (or 45” square)

  • 40 x 40” for babies

Members who would like to make quilts for the Community Quilts Program can access fabric, batting and in the storage room at Buchanan Hall.

Quilts, placemats and fabric donations can be dropped off at the Buchanan Hall in Cumberland during regular Drop-in Sew Days, every Thursday between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm.

Breast Cancer
Comfort Pillows

Every 3 months the Schoolhouse Quilters delivers 30 comfort pillows to the North Island Hospital Comox Valley where they are distributed to breast cancer patients recovering from surgery.

In order to meet this need, the committee will host sew days on the second Thursday of every third month (January, April, July, and October) where members can make one (or more) of these bags.

Pre-assembled kits containing everything you need (fabric, batting and instructions) are available in the storage room at Buchanen Hall. You can also download the pattern and instructions below to use materials from your own stash (coming soon!).

Baby Boxes

The Schoolhouse Quilters donates baby-size quilts to Public Health for inclusion in ‘Baby Boxes’ alongside other baby items. These boxes are distributed by public health nurses to struggling mothers around the Comox Valley.

The Moms and babies that receive our donated quilts thank you for your continuing support.
