Emergency Response Procedures: Schoolhouse Quilters' Guild
Emergency Response Procedures for Fire/Earthquake evacuation of the OAP Hall, 2674 Dunsmuir Avenue, Cumberland.
Fire Alarms
It is the Executive's Responsibility to make the membership aware of ER Procedures. It is the members’ responsibility to make themselves familiar with those procedures.
There are fire alarms near each exit door that should be pulled.
There are 5 doors out of the building:
- Quilters’ entrance door
- 2 Back Doors accessed from hallway (between OAP and museum)
- “turret” door (near storage room)
- Kitchen door (kept locked)
ONLY ONE person should call 911. They should clearly identify themselves and announce that they are calling 911. Give the address of the OAP Hall; posted at all fire pulls and/or extinguishers.
In the case of fire or earthquake, Guild members in attendance should exit the building safely and quickly and go to the furthest end of the Parking Lot from the building where they will be checked off the Sign-in Sheet and await the ALL CLEAR. The person working nearest the door should pick up sign-in sheets and a pen on their way to the assembly point. Those with mobility issues should be aware of their surroundings and be assisted out of the building. Members should be aware of those who may need assistance and be ready to help out. Washrooms should be checked.
Members should not attempt to get into their cars and leave the area. Cars leaving may impede the fire department getting into the area.
Members attending the evening meeting should carry some form of lighting in the event of a power outage.
